On the other hand, I use my phone on 3 different bikes with 3 different methods of affixing the same phone to each of them.
The 3 methods are -
a X grip system - a chinese copy of an expensive version.
a "waterproof" case.
a purpose designed bracket purchased via ebay.
Two of those 3 listed above have an inbuilt usb charging port (and they are connected directly to the bike battery) - one of them has two such charging points for different amperage.
I have also "used" my phone on a bike with it in my pocket - this was for recording a track at the time.
And, the same phone goes onto a mount on two other 4 wheeled vehicles.

I use an iPad Mini in a Lifeproof case in conjunction with a Bad Elf 2200 GPS transceiver. In addition, I use an iPhone 7 Plus. The only downsides to this setup are:
1. The iPhone cables go bad due to vibration. You must carry extra cables. It looks like they short out due to the closeness of the pins, but I'm not 100% sure.
2. Vibrations will eventually kill the camera in the iPhone . . . and maybe other things as well. They just vibrate apart after awhile. It's best to buy a used iPhone off of eBay to use just for navigation. Just don’t buy any used phone from a dude named Orangecicle.
3. Finding apps that work well on the iDevices is a challenge at times. Some of my favorites are Motion-X, Bad Elf (has a somewhat hidden screen that displays speed, altitude, and direction), and Avenza for PDF maps (although they now charge an arm and a leg to use the app). I also build my own apps, which I'm not allowed to talk about here.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
