Zumo 220 help please
I have used a 220 with UK maps for a good while now and have become very familiar with it's ways and foibles !!
Now i would like to tour Europe and would like to add that to the mapping in the 220. How the hell do i do it? I'm not too smart on the PC so i'd sort of like to buy the necessary maps or pay someone smarter than me to do it ! Really can't afford a new GPS so i was hoping it was as simple as buying the necessary card. I bought one mail order for peanuts and although it shows all of the area i want on the 220 it won't calculate any route i have in my favourites. Just says "cannot calculate route"
Apparently the 220 is discontinued and Garmin don't seem to want anything to do with it any more.
Is there any way round this?

Free maps .. OSM ...
Can you transfer photos from your camera to your PC?
If so then you can do the reverse .. transfer a "file" (that is all a photo is) from your PC to a memory card that fits in your GPS.
Do you have a memory card that will fit in your GPS? That is blank (or can be made blank)? If not .. buy one.
Download from the web an OSM map for the place you want to go from;
Free worldwide Garmin maps from OpenStreetMap
Select Europe .. and the country you want ... say France .. you'll see the map tiles change to blue where France is ...
want more coverage then click on "Enable manual tile selection" and then click on the map for the extras you want. Don't get greedy .. can be a big file .. maybe too big for your GPS.
Then enter your email address and they end you a link when it is ready.
If you only select one country .. then you can download it then and there .. no waiting, no email address. When it is ready go to the provided web address and download the single file for the GPS .. not the ones for the PC ...
Once it is downloaded .. copy it across to the memory card. Put card in GPS .. done.

Thanks guys, I'll give it a try. I'm thinking that "all" of Europe is too big for the old 220 ??

The world is too big for any ...
So have separate cards. You'll just want more cards for a GPS that only takes smaller file sizes.
I think "all" of Europe is over 2G. Or at least approaching it. Maybe you can get France, Spain, Portugal on one card. Another card for east?
