algeria and sahara overland
hi all,
new poster, new to the sahara, planning a trip south-north across it in september this year.....
the propoposed route is as follows. fly zurich->lagos/nigeria, benin, niger, algeria, tunisia, italy, switzerland (home) by land. i plan to travel with my girlfriend and we will use a combination of public transport and paid rides. i do not plan on driving.
1. is september an ok month for this? according to my rough schedule, i will be in agadez by mid september and crossing into tunisia at the start of october. basically, is september still damn hot, or have things started to cool off by then? what about the amount of traffic going in my direction at this time of year?
2. i want to make a trip from tam to assekrem and back. will it be possible to organise a driver for this trip? what about going all the way to djanet and then north to avoid double back to tam? would appreciate comments on the logistics and possibilities of doing this without own transport.
i would consider myself very experienced in asia, but this will be my first time to africa. please comment only on the doability of the trip. i know the risks.
thanks
paul
ps for peter8769, according to a trip report i read during the planning of my trip, it is possible to cross the land border from tunisia to algeria as an individual.
