Algeria October 2006
This maybe somewhat premature, but here goes..
I'm planning a very long overland trip, and want to start by crossing Algeria North to South. Assuming the current situation prevails (i.e. compulsory guides at the border), I wish to get a group together to travel through Algeria (in order to share the cost of a guide. I will be in a two-seat Hilux pickup, alone or with one other, so I may not have room for a guide.
I would like at the very least to do a straight trip from the Tunisian border via El Oued, Ghardaia, In Salah, Tam to In Guezzam, but ideally would like to take in a side trip from Tam to the Tassili and maybe the crater around Amguid. If you're keen, I would also like to see some of the Grand Erg Occidental around Timimoun (possibly connecting back to the Hoggar Route at In Salah).
I'm proposing to stay mainly on-piste and on roads where they exist (may turn out not to have any other options considering current regs as I understand them), although I would happily travel off-piste with someone more experienced than myself - I am an experienced traveller, but only as a backpacker thus far.
So is anyone interested? (Remember this is October 2006, not this year!)
Cheers
Dan
