Two bikes on the ferry is no problem, it can take at least 4, maybe more..
Cars normally go on a barge, no time-schedule and expensive...
Good luck and keep going before it gets hotter. If you follow the Nile from Wadi Halfa you will be able to get water and some food :-))

success! the aswan - wadi halfa ferry leaves egypt every monday and can fit at least two fully loaded XTZs (though prob not more than 4). lifting bikes by hand and riding through passenger entrance is involved but not impossible. mahmood at the aswan moon restaurant in town in aswan is a great help for customs. cost is about US$15 per person and US$25 per bike. if you are more than a couple of bikes, the only other option is the vehicle ferry that also leaves once a week (if there are enough vehicles) and is much more expensive (US$1000 for the boat split by however many vehicles you can find to share - but only one passenger allowed per vehicle, others must use the passenger ferry.) passenger ferry is 18hrs approx, vehicle ferry is three days approx.
thanks omar for the advice and the invitation, sorry to have missed you but did not read your message until after we left alexandria,
regards,
brothersorr

Note that Omar's post is from 2003. You should contact the HU communities for up to date information.
Yes, there is a ferry. I think it runs every day. It's a short ride and no big deal at all.

Ferry Aswan to Wadi Halfa
Hi Omar,
With 2 friends (3 bikes), we're planning to join capetown from bordeaux in France via tunisia and lybia. Departure is for next january.
Could you tell me if the ferry in aswan is still leaving on monday or if the timetable has changed. Do you think we can put 3 bikes on the passenger ferry, and if not what are the days of departure for the vehicle ferry ?
Lots of questions...
If we stop in alexandria, it could be nice to meet...
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul
early is better ,as lots of routine paper here paper there ,better to be in Aswan by Friday ,unless you don't mind to stay another week waiting for the next ferry
