Libya transit visa application in Egypt???
Me and my mate are travelling on a carnet in our cruiser from South
africa to Sweden. We are now in southern Egypt and want to go to Tunisia via Libya Coastal rd.
I am trying to find information about
where and how to apply for transit visa in Cairo and crossing into Libya on a transit visa without having to carry an escort. On Cris scotts site
where it is stated that you don't need a one staying on the main
road.
Lanygirl have written an excellent description from Tunisia but from Cairo???
All travellers we meet coming from tunisia we meet have had transit
and they claim they had to have a escort despite staying on the road.
We would like to get the email for a agent in Libya offering
invitations without claiming you have to have an escort.
We are crossing in about 3 weeks so it is a bit of a hurry.
Thanks in advance.

try if you like...
I drove from Cairo to Tripoli about 3 weeks ago, without a guide (3 good days for info (get the 'coast road' from Cairo north, and cut directly across west from Tobruk).
My Libyan guy was not keen, but given that it was my third visit to the country he okayed it in the end (he was pretty stressed though until I confirmed my safe arrival in TIP).
Send Hadi an email at:
info@fessano-w-tours.com
and see how you go - but I suspect he'll not be happy.
Can I suggest, though, that you cough up the cash for 2 weeks and go down with a guide to the south (it'll probably be the best 2 weeks of your entire trip) - seriously.
Sam.
PS your present location is completely immaterial for the visa requirements for Libya - if you have internet access then you can arrange everything from anywhere.

In Cairo
Thanks for the feedback. We will take it under consideration. Our money situation is not doing to well why we need the transit desperately. I have had contact with Hadi since before thanks.
Going to apply to the embassy in Cairo. THe story is that it takes 2-3 weeks to process. Details of the car and passport copies. THey want no letters and no arabic translations.
The long wait is our problem.
Wait and see.

strange?
Normally you don't need to go through any embassy, but I don't know what nationality you have.
If Hadi can't sort it for you 'remotely' then you'll have to go through the embassy there. Good Luck!
Sam.
