broken window + second car
1/ we recently acquired a star on our front window due to a big stone, about 10 cm diameter and with cracks around it of about 40 cm, fortunately in the upper right corner thus not preventing good views. the window is a double one with a film in between the two, and everyone assures us it will be okay, but is it?
2/ from around april 10 onwards we will start from nouakchot for a two to three week tour of mauretanie, anyone around and planning the same around the same time? interested in sharing the costs of a guide?

Hi Karolien
I have driven for thousands of miles with cracked and crazed windows. The cracks slowly get bigger in time!
The oddity is the un-cracked, un-crazed windscreen that suddenly breaks without notice...
The plastic inner is part of the safety device, it holds all the pre-stressed pieces together.
If the glass breaks, don’t worry. You will be showered with a few small, blunt pieces, but the plastic inner will hold the remainder in place.
If this happens, keep the side-windows shut to reduce the inward pressure on the screen. You should then be able to drive on quite safely.
Don’t knock it all out and some people do, you only need a small hole to see through, and a stout piece of clear plastic taped across it will keep the dust out and last for a long time.
Good luck

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
