Buying Thuraya scratch cards in the Sahara
Anyone got any experience of this? I asked around in rural Morocco but no one knew Thuraya. I also hear you can buy cards in Alg post offices....

No idea about the countries you have mentioned. But for LY I can confirm, that they are available at least in TIP and BEN.

Hi - slightly off the point, but referring to Thuraya at least ...
I read on the net somewhere that you could use a vodafone or O2 sim in a Thuraya phone and it would get billed to your contract. Anyone had any experience of this ? I 'phoned 3 different people at Vodafone and didn't get anywhere, eventually got onto a company called AST (who sell Thuraya phones). They said that it works with newer sims, but not old ones.
Would be interested in anyone with actual working knowledge .. also whether any other network sims would work - t-mobile for example.
Thanks
Pete

Thurayas work with most GSM SIMs if there is a network and you change the settings, but in North Africa I find Thuraya sat rates are usually cheaper.
