Cairo: Libyan embassy and Hotel?
Hi,
Does anybody have a waypoint for the Libyan embassy in Cairo, and can somebody offer any accommodation recommendations close by (camping or a hotel with super safe Land Rover parking etc?). I don't want to travel too much each day to the embassy etc.
Many thanks!

Sahara Overland ~ Libya visa information
As long as you keep the noise down they will let you park up and camp in the back garden, like most embassies.
But the border is closed, no?

It is so helpful having a super moderator to answer questions. Every forum should have one! ;-p
In that case it is about N30 03.581 E31 13.162 according to my OSM gps map.
As I have found the quality of the facilities lacking at my most recent embassy camping experiences, and the embassy appears to be smack bang in the centre of town, any cheap hotel recommendations would be appreciated to avoid a long Cairo commute, most likely multiple times ;-)

We asked three days ago to get a visa for Libya in Cairo. They would not give us one. Tourist visas are no longer issued. For all other visas (business, journalist, transit...) you need a letter of invitation from Libya. Libyan tour companies could not help us as they can only write letters for Tourist Visa.
I received this email from a Libyan tour company on March 28th:
Quote:
...I'm very sorry but we are not able to help you to obtain an entry visa. To now not any tourist visa has been released and on 24th of March the entry
border between Libya and Egypt has been closed. May be it is a temporally
decision but I think the Libyan situation is not so stabilized and not so
safe in any place in the country.
I wish all problems will be solved in a short time, and in the better way,
but it is early to say everything is ok. ...

Friends got a visa 3 weeks ago - they had to visit many times and their first application was rejected. Persistence is needed it seems, hence my question about a cheap hotel nearby....
