i am going mid march via algeciras-mauri-mali-burkina-ghana-togo-benin to niger.
you do NOT need a carnet in these countries. only SENEGAL bothers you with this document. just avoid it.
insurance for mauri in NOUADHIBOU at "camging baie de levrier" about 20 euro for 20 days.
insurance for morocco directly at the border in ceuta or tanger.(depends on ps or kw of engine)
you will get further infos on the road from other travellers.
if you speak german i recommend travelguide REISE KNOW HOW westafrika 1 latest edition from august 2005.
there is somthing like a westafrika-insurance called carte brune.try to get it in nouakchott or in bamako.there is no insurance office at the maliborder.get it in bamako or kayes.

Insurance in Nouaddibou is 10 Euros for up to 4 weeks for a normal car.

Dont buy insurance in Camping Baie Levrier to as the manager "ALI" will happily charge you double the price for everything -be parts,insurance,-whatever-.

Hi !!
Insurance in Nouadddibou is best bought at "officine das asurances" -something like that- . Going south throught the main way (as if coming from the border ) , just 200 metres before Camping Baie Levrier. The shop is at the right.

Cars AND motorbikes of up to 1-15PS 4000 UM p/month
If they insist on charging you the greater 15PS-25PS just walk away and let them chase you back to the shop.

Also .. the very best -by far- place to exchange Euros to UM are the any of the 3 Chinesse restaurants/brothels at the Blvd Maritime. They give up to 400 UM / Euro without any need to engage in any other *activity*.

Cheers
Javier

hi hajle !
it depends on your green card.mine excludes morokko.it would cost me in austria about euro 150.-
it is cheaper to do in ma.just have a look at your green card and you know if it`s good for ma.
