Darb al Arba'in - 40 Days Road by camel
Slightly off topic for motorcycles and 4WD travel I know, but.....
I've previously been to Sudan & Egypt on a bike, but was considering the idea of a slightly slower means of transport - therefore does anyone have any experience of traveling the 40 days road by camel from Sudan to Cairo? I know there are a few books out there on this route (including Michael Ashar etc), but I was after anyone with experience in the last few years.
I'm particularly interested to hear of any experience with the following issues:
1. getting permits to get into Darfur (where the route originates)
2. the reaction of the Egyptian authorities after you cross the border without a stamp
3. how often the caravan travels and the availability / difficulty of joining it
cheers
