Dubai to Bordeaux Via Sudan/Egypt/Libya

Having already ridden from UAE/UK in 2002 via Iran/Turkey/Greece we are now planning UAE/UK via KSA/Sudan/Egypt/Libya..... Spain/France etc... Trip is scheduled for June 2010 (hot I know but arrival in Europe ties in with Moto GP's during July 2010). Reading various threads I am still none the wiser on the Wadi Halfa - Aswan (lake Nasser) crossing. Has anyone gone Sudan/Egypt recently, most are coming the other direction. How many days should we plan for this crossing.

Other option is KSA/Jordan/Syria/Turkey/Central Europe which appears to be a lot easier and quicker.

wadi Halfa crossing

the way you choose is of course important.
The crossing KSA- Jordan _ Syria is the easier and shorter and less expensive way.
For the Way KSA-Sudan_EGpyt you will have the narrow path at the ferryboat at wadi Halfa.
We made that crossing over years several time. It is worse to have good contacts and to make some reservations in advance it will pay out.
The situation depends always exactly on the time of travelling and how many persons are using that crossing.
THe ferry boat is always leaving on Wensday Wadi Halfa. For the vehicle it will be transported seperatly on an other boat. As usually more traffic is going from the north to the south the boats are filled going to the south the otherway round, you might find 2 boat already waiting for you to go back north and you even might leave before the ferryboat leaves.
How long the crossing takes. You have to calculate 3 days for the car on the lake, so it might arrive on Friday or Saturday. As not all the places are working on Saturday you might leave the car in Costums till the next day until you can get it out so you should calculate atleast with 5 days, it might be a day less or more

best luck
Tango

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
