Hi!
I am coming back from the Gilf/Uweinat today.
Things have changed again:
- We had to pay 60 US $ per person and the 3 week trip not 200 $/day
- Lama has got a permission to travel

Hello Ursula, welcome back !
How many were you in the group ? The $200/day was per group, not per person.
Was it your group that walked into Karkur Talh to the sites near the entrance, then out again? The tracks of the 5 cars looked like Lama...
(to my knowledge Lama must arrange permits through Siag...)

Hello all
Welcome back Ursula.
Andras: the 5 cars in uwinat were a group of foreigners living and working in Cairo
Were I met one of them in egyptoffroad show room and had a little chat about their route, latter I heard that they had a broken car (Cherokee) and had to leave it behind
And send a mechanic from the oasis to get it.
All the best

Hello Andras
The footprints were from Pan Arab Tours/Sun Tours from Germany (9.3.03) They walked very close to the minefield...We met them going to the "waterfall"/Guelta when we made camp there in this sidearm from Karkur Talh.
We were 14 persons (incl. Lamas and the officer) and travelled for 3 weeks
What about this rumours about you having had problems with the army on your last trip?

Not that I know of Our officer was a very nice chap, no problems whatsoever (except of course for having to pay the extortive fee)
Trip account will be up on the FJ website soon.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
