Exclamation Egyptian ports temporarily closed to 4x4s

Original heading: 'Update info Jordan - Nuweiba ferry crossing'

Very recently the Egyptian Government has decided not to allow any 4x4 vehicles to enter the country anymore by any port. This is because they are afraid rebels will come at you with guns and take your car for their own purposes.
This rule presumably started around 6 weeks ago (end of October). I lastly contacted the Egyptian Consulate in Aqaba on the 19th of November. They confirmed that 4x4 are for the time not being allowed to enter Egypt from any port.
As far as I know, bicycles, motrocycles, normal cars and persons are still allowed to cross.

AB Maritime who sells ferry tickets for vehicles and persons knows about the situation, but might not know the most recent update. For the most recent situation call the Egyptian Consulate in Aqaba: 032016181. They are very friendly, helpful and speak good English.

Egypt travel

Since I travel and live around the region,

No travelers by car or 4 wheelers are allowed to enter Sinie region from any intery port Neiube - Aqaba. closed for military activity. The South region of Sharm el shakh is open by only air ins only.

The western Sahara is open only for egyption tour company and they have to get permits from the military in order to tour the west sahara oasis.

In general the area of cross libya- Egypt border area is not safe to travel in your own due to current turmoil in the region.

Being safe will make you live another day to be brave.

Does this mean entering the port of Damietta (via Unroro ferry) and following the route south along the Nile valley (into Sudan) is no problem with a 4x4 vehicle?

If you coming from Euro zone, ship your car vi Genoa Italy to elskandria port or sues port no ferry services in that rout. Fly in to Cairo and go to your final shipping port to collect your car( you need a good handling agent at the port to swiftly process your car paper & prmission.

Then drive only on the main roads Elskandria to Cairo, Cairo to aen alsoknah( red sea resort 120 KM from Cairo) then you could drive south via gardagh resort south all the way to Marsa elim then halayip is almost to Sudan borders.

Drive only day light with convey of cars.

happy new year all
i just heard that you can not enter Egypt from Sinai side with a 4x4 ,
i have no official confirmation about that ,
so if you enter from Taba or Nuwibaa you cant with 4X4
in North Sinai Egyptian police and army are having a serious fight against terrorists groups so i guess that's why they forbid 4x4 ,although its so silly in my opinion to do that
travel safe all

As far as I know but nothing official that is [right], only in Sinai: Taba and Nwuibaa ports - you can't enter with 4x4.
From Sallum, Alexandria, Domiatta and Port Said it's ok.

travel safe all

Welcome to Egypt ;-)

It takes a lot of effort to delay a simple process for such a long period of time… truly staggering.

4x4 vehicle importation into Egypt: update

Hi everyone,

Just to let you know that Egypt has adopted new regulations since a few months stating that all 4x4 vehicles imported by sea (Alexandria, Port Said, Sokhna) into Egypt require military intelligence clearance. This does not make it impossible, but is does make it more difficult, time consuming and expensive. Make sure to get a good clearance agent who has contact within the military to get your clearance.

Driving into Egypt from the South (Wadi Halfa route) is possible as this is a land border.

Entering the Sinai with a 4x4 vehicle is still restricted (Taba, Nuweiba, Suez) until now. No one knows for how long.

Regards
Bas
