Europe to Egypt via Israel (again)
I have been struggling to find some recent quality info in going to Africa this direction.
Shipping;
I've read you can ship from Athens/Istanbul to Haifa at lame prices but will follow through with that. I'll throw it on a ship for 400 euro and fly to Tel Aviv, and bus up to the port. Seems like a much cheaper option than going as a passenger.
Entry to Egypt;
I have a French registered motorcycle (though I am NZ), I'm not entirely sure how it works but I think ADAC can issue me a Carnet de passage for a couple of hundred euro (I'll pick it up when I'm in Germany in a month), should make other African countries easier.
Do I need anything else other than the Carnet to enter Egypt from Taba? I've read about a 2000 euro deposit but not sure if that is a TIP which is irrelevant if you have the Carnet or not. If I have the Carnet, can anybody give any other details of unexpected costs/processes at the Taba border? Really just want to have all my shit in one sock before arrival
Thanks for info
Reuben

Just the usual travel documentation.
It's possible having a bike from one country and a passport from another may be a problem. Or more likely, inconsistent addresses.
It's hard to keep track but north Sinai has been dodgy for months, though I'd say that covers all of Sinai now. Consider crossing from Israel into Jordan and taking the ferry, then west via the Sinai coast road, if that is possible following recent attacks at the resorts.
Sinai vehicle bans come and go but if there is no alternative I am sure you could put your bike into the back of a truck to cross to Cairo.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
