Following the Prime Meridian from Algeria to Ghana
I had been hoping to drive across North Africa from west to east, but the obvious border problems, plus the costs of traveling through Algeria, Libya and Egypt with my own vehicle means I'm having to change my plans.
I want to try and "follow" the prime meridian from London to the coast of Ghana. Not following it completely, but visiting places along the way that sit on (or are very close to) the prime meridian.
My main problem is Algeria.
Are there any ferries from europe to Algeria currently running at all.
If so then I can either land in Algeria, drive down to Ghana and back up to Europe via Morocco, or do the reverse; landing in morocco and driving down to Ghana before returning to europe via Algeria.
If there are no ferries, then my only choice is to drive down via morocco, visit Mali, Burkina and Ghana before crossing the southern border into Algeria and then exit Algeria so I can drive back up to europe via morocco again.
So, the prime meridian passes through the west of Algeria, from Mostaganem on the coast to Bordj Mokhtar on the southern border, anyone have any knowledge of these area's or anywhere else well worth visiting within Algeria that sit close to the prime meridian.
Also, does anyone knows wether the confluence of the prime meridian and the tropic of cancer is accessible at all?
Thanks guys!

Hi,
there is a lot to see, have a look at Steven Weinberg
I met Mr. Weinberg near Kidal in 2005, nice guy, great photographer.
There are ferries to Oran and Algiers at least!

Ghana and Greenwich Meridian
I will be in Ghana for 6 weeks from 17 Sep, staying in our bungalow at Tema, approx 2.5km west of meridian.
I've been to and from Ghana over 45 years and may be able to give any information (my wife is Ghanaian).
I've never travelled overland though have often yearned to do so but, at 73, chances now fading, especially as my wife isn't so adventurous!
Good Luck!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
