Foreigner vehicle only 6 months in Egypt
Hey Fellow,
Because I liked it that much to be in Egypt I extended my first month visa with another 6 months. No problem at al, also no problems with the extension of the permission for the bike. When a wanted to stay three more months, especially for the diving part they told me that a foreigner vehicle can only be in Egypt for 6 months A YEAR. Unfortunately I heard this only 3 days before my permission would expire so I had to go back to Israel.
Since I have entered Egypt by Nuweiba port and as far as I could determine there is no computer system to register the in- out going vehicles, I hope to trick the system and see if I can reenter Egypt at the Taba border.
Anyone heard or experienced this before ??
Cheers,
Richard

True
Unfortunately I know this story well.
All that you state is true.
After six months in egypt the vehicle must be six months out of
the country or in a duty free compound.
It s a nightmare.

Thanks JT,
You gave me conformation of what I was afraid of. Try to get in at a different border doesn't work in your opinion??
Cheers,
Richard

Unlikely
Hi,
While nothing is impossible (especially if you have any contacts or cash to spare), I'd say it's pretty unlikely to get away with, especially with the same carnet.
They asked me very clearly on exit, if I was returning or not. Of course I said not, but had no real problems when coming back from Jordan 3 months later.
It's very hard to know how effective the record keeping is.
I've alternatwed between getting the car out of the coutry and putting it in duty free storage at the airport. I still cannot decide which is cheaper or less annoying. For instance, last year, I spent three fridays trying to get the letter asking for the letter giving me permission to drive a right hand drive car. PITA.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
