Gadaffi on a roll.....
Libya has closed its airports and severed phone links with the outside world in the latest demand for compensation from former colonial power, Italy.
People who phoned Libya received a recorded message: "As part of the mourning over the victims of the savage crimes committed by the Italian fascists against the Libyan people, all international telecommunications are to be halted today."
Gaddafi's protests continue despite apology
Libyans wore black to mark the Day of Mourning and black banners fluttered over homes, government buildings, buses and cars said the official Libyan news agency, JANA.
Airports were closed down, but opened briefly for a visit by Amr Moussa, secretary general of the Arab League, which Libya is threatening to leave.
Libyan satellite television broadcast its programmes in black and white on Saturday.

Gaddafi loves pulling stunts like this every now an then. I’m guessing here, but I think this will all blow over in a month or two. Other than initial rejections or delays in getting a visa I don’t think it will affect travelers much. After all the Paris Dakar rally will pass through Libya in January and the Gaddafi administration gave the rally organizers their word that everything will go as planned. Actually the last time the rally passed through Libya one of the rally organizers told me they were very impressed with the support the Libyan government gave them. If only the Egyptian government could be so cooperative ….

Like AB says, a typical Libyan stunt, but what I heard was that it was a one day thing - otherwise bollocks to them!

aren't you the diplomatic moderator this morning, Chris! you're obviously not after a visa for Libya this year, then.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
