Ghadames-Ubari via lakes direct
Has anyone done this? Time (particularly to cross sand sea). Advice, quality of guide used. Level of difficulty...
Planning on doing it March 2007.
Sam.

please look vor the GPS-pointed route in
http://www.desert-info.ch/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1688
I don't think the route from Idri to Awari is really difficult, many people done this. You may contact Mohammed Tahar in Algatrun. Tel. here somewhere in the Forum.

Hi Sam,
it depends what you mean by "direct".
I did Idri-Ubari with a 109 2a in 96 in just one day. This route enters the dunes east of Idri. We drove most of the time in gassi. It was not difficult to cross the dunes once we aired down the tyres to 0.6bar.
I once tried to drive from Idri SW to Ubari "direct" hopeing to follow old caravane pistes. But we abandoned after about 15km and 3hrs because we were only 1 car and the passages in the dunes were difficult.

'direct'
Okay, sounds as if the Idri-Ubari way is the easier (we are, as always, tight on time). I'm having difficulty with the .ch site - anyone here have recent GPS for that route?
Sam.

Hello Sam,
why do you want to go Edri...it is not necessary, you can go directly from Ghadames to Awbari, easy way, quick and beautifull. After you can
go to the lakes.
I will be there in january anf february...
Have a nice wind
