In-out through Egypt?
In the past we have always used the standard Moroccan or Tunisian ferries to get to the desert.
Does anyone know of similar (ie travel with your vehicle) ferries between Egypt and Europe?
Sam.

If there was it would be a very popular route but I believe what there was (out of Athens to Alexandria?) has not run for years. Containering is the only altenative and you can imagine how much fun that would be in Egypt...
Happy to hear otherwise, tho.

I recently shipped from Alexandria port to Italy with a 20' container.
It took about two days with an Egyptian agent to clear custom.
Costs as follow:
390 USD Container
1700 EP (Egyptian Pound), about 225 Euro for Port and shipping agent
After this you have to pay about 400/500 Euro for the Italian port and agent.
So it will be about 1000 Euro one way for a 20' container (4/6 bikes)
To ship from Italy is also possible but it will take one more day to clear custom, this told me the Egyptian agent, who was very kind with us.
If there is any chance to arrive together with the bike like a RoRo, it will be easier to clear the custom (like entering from Sallum, see my post).

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
