Mauitania is cheaper Can't remember how much cause it was so cheap.
Cost 10 euros's to import car.

Senegal won't let you in with vehicle over 5 years old unless you have carnet. They stopped us at border in 10 year old Landy. Had to wait and convoy to Gambia.

is a normal car insurance from your homecountry not sufficient? why is it needed to get a seperate insurance at the border?:confused1:

In the UK it seems to depend which insurance company you are with. Some will extend your normal insurance to include Morocco (for a fee - £21 for me last time), and some will not

Does the insurance which you buy at the Mauritanian border pay the damages (third party) if you have an accident?
What about the other countries?

Morocco - 48 EUROS was the price last time I paid. Last time I drove I didnt had it, and nobody was concerned.
Mauri - at border shed, but you are not OBLIGED to buy there this paper. Go to NDB, change money for 350 oogs (its best rate, even better as in NKT, so change all your money in NDB), and buy insurance in office next to Ali's campsite for 3100 oogs

I reckon the cheapest insurance you can get for Senegal (never been) and Mali etc is actually to be bought in Mauritania. Though it's not valid in Mauritania.

Go to Auberge Sahara in Nouakchott (google their website, you will drive past them as you enter from the north on the new sealed road). Ask the owner. He will phone the bloke who is the agent who will arrive on his scooter.

It covers Mali and a whole bunch of other places (Senegal I think, but can't be sure) and is very cheap. Only about 50 euro cents a day I think rather than nearer 1 euro a day. I seem to think I paid 35 euros for 3 months?

And if you leave the sticker in place when you return to France with no assurance and are stopped at a road block where they are checking, you can confidently point to it and say "Yes, I have assurance".

It was still valid. Just not in France.

Also, keep the green Mori insurance. Leave it in the sun to fade. When you come back you might get stuck with it being a Sunday or holiday or something. So to avoid fines (they check often in Mori to try and get a 25 euro fine) just write over the top of the faded pen (at the WS/Mori border in the caravan they write in pen, in NB they used a computer maybe?) and use it until you can buy some more.

Insurance for only 9 euros
I have read on this forum that a guy had an accident after having bought such kind of insurance and they never answered the phone. Finally he had to pay 11000 euros for the damages!!!

Are this insurances true or they are just a scam in which the police is also involved?
