Lake Tchad
Hi there!
Who's can give me some information about drinving around lake Tchad from Niger to N'djamena.
How is the track?
How much days it take?
Is it possible to do with a truck (a normal one)?
And what about security?

Going round lake chad is reasonably easy but allow reasonable time. We took 3 days. Lots of big wash outs on the track. We ended up crashing into one and damaging the axle / steering by trying to push on too fast. Security didn't seem to bad, the villages round Lake chad don't seem that great but bush camping was fine. Just got well of the track and didn't have any problems. Should be fine in an ordinary truck, we went round in a LR110, a number of local older trucks went through.

We took 3 days as well. Found that the track wasn't too hard, and navigation was only confusing in a few places. Sahara Overland has a good set of waypoints for the route. Bol is a particularly unfriendly town, and we ran into several unsavoury people there. Otherwise secirity wasn't much of a problem. We were advised in Niger not to travel at night as lights can attract unwanted attention. We started early each day and stopped early as well. There are a few stretches of very soft sand, which might cause a bit of trouble with a normal truck, but shouldn't stop you.
cheers
Graham
