Leaving the bike behind in North Africa
Mates,
is there any country in the north-western part of Africa where it is easy to leave the bike behind or sell it?
My understanding is one entering a country with a motorcycle will be stamped, which makes it difficult to just leave without vehicle.
I searched the forum and only found an old thread saying it is quite impossible to lave a bike in Morocco see http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...-morocco-30422
But how about other countries?
Has anybody left behind, sold, lost, burned, what ever...a vehicle in the north-west part of Africa?
Somehow there got to be a way otherwise all banger rallys wouldn't be possible....
Cheers,
Wauschi

I've played with the same thoughts. In the end I sold it in Gambia. They don't write it in your passport so you can leave the country without it.
An other option would be to leave it in the no-mans land between Western Sahara and Mauritania. Leaving it in Morocco/Western Sahara is not possible/easy.
Cheers,
Adrian.

Adrian,
thank you for your feedback.
This is exactly the information I was looking for.
Did you sell it locally or other travelers?
How much time did it take to sell (easy/difficult?)?
Any challenges w. paper work? (Last time in Columbia selling a bike took me 2 valuable days.)
Cheers,
Wauschi

You can allways leave a (crashed accedent) bike behind in no mans land at the boarders between two countrys. Let them take the bike out of your passport in one country and enter the next country as a walking person.

Well, yes, that's also an option.
Although I'd prefer to sell the bike.
Cheers,
Wauschi
P.S:
Unfortunately the last time I sold my bike in a foreign country the buyer had challenges crossing the border as he was not "marked" traveling by motorcycle.
