Medical Insurance - advice for Sahara trip
Hi,
I know there's another section for this kind of query, but it's not v. active, and you guys are clearly old hands at this sort of thing.
The problem is of course, that as soon as the FCO advise against travel to a country, no one will even insure you against broken bones or gut rot.
Has anyone found a company that definitely covers you for medical crises (unrelated to terrorism etc..) when in blacklisted countries (like Algeria & Niger)?
cheers
Nik
ps. I'm a UK Citizen
pps. I've found that telesales staff happily tell me I'll be covered, and then the opposite message comes back when I ask for written confirmation!

Nik,
I guess PPP Worldwide Cover is for all sorts of eventualities, including flying you home from anywhere in the world, so if they do it, others do it as well, but not necessarily high street brokers.
As a thought, you should be able to get medical cover in any EU country. Even if FCO doesn't want you to go there, other governments may think differently. There's no co-ordinated EU policy about foreign travel risk assessment.

I think it is worth repeating that the FCO to their credit (or "about time") now temper their black lists with specific regional advice - ie they dont write a whole country off anymore.
If you are not going to those areas the risk ought to be lower - though of course getting ins' sales people to appreciate this would be asking too much - and those areas happen to be the Sahara.
fyi campbell irvine in earls court is another place to try. I got a [vehicle] quote off them last week for 'black list' areas.
