Hi all,
I will be heading south from Morocco in the first week of Feb on a KTM 640 Adv.
If anyone is interested in doing any of the pistes in Mauritiania, I will be there in mid - late Feb. At this stage, I'm planning on riding Nouadhibou - Atar - Tidjikja.
I would also like to ride the Tidjikja - Tichit - Oualata - Nema piste, however this will probably depend on finding a 4WD going the same way to carry extra fuel.
I'm also planning on taking the piste from Nema to Timbuktu via Lac Faguibine (ie not the Route d'Espoir via Nampala).
If anyone is around at this time and wants to meet up to swap stories or travel these routes together, please let me know. Timing is very flexible.
cheers

Hi Matt, we'll be doing the same route, starting in Nouadibou about January 28 and getting to Timbuktú about February the 20. But from Nema we plan to do Bassikounou-Léré-Goundam (as has suggested here before, thanks!). That's a little south of your planned route, as we feel is a safer way, at least on 4 wheels.
No problem in carrying as much fuel as you need if we travel together for a while, but we won´t be connected to the Hubb while travelling, neither will carry sat phones, so it might be difficult to meet but by chance.

Hi Pedro,
It seems like I will be about a week or two behind you. I'm also without sat phone, so probably the best chance to meet up will be if we bump into each other at an auberge somewhere. In Atar, I will probably be at Bab Sahara for a few days, and in Tidijika the auberge near the petrol station as you enter town from the Atar piste.
I will be on a blue KTM. Hope to see you on the road!
cheers

Hi again Matt, we'll keep an eye on the road looking for you. We might have to go to Nouakchott before Atar, and we'll go to Chinguetti to deliver some medical stuff we are carrying to a small hospital there, so there may be a bigger chance for us to meet. We'll stay in the same auberges and will look/leave a message for you there.
Hope to see you on the road. Have a nice trip,
Pedro

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
