Morocco - Is there a paved road from Zagora-Foum Zguid?

Hi, I've heard conflicting reports on this with some saying that the road has been tarmaced all the way. I would appreciate info from any recent visitors to help me put together an itinery. I'm going to souther Morocco to take pictures and have a VW Golf diesel MK4 which isn't very good off the tarmac (despite my trying...).

Thanks in advance.

last time i´ve been there i had to make a few kilometers in piste, but a very easy one. I did it with a citroen ZX, 2WD. Maybe now it is all tarmac. But if it isn´t dont´t worry. You´ll make it anyway. Easy and very beatiful

Last year there were a load of tubes set in of the type that passes a stream under the road, and a good road prepared a few km out of Foum Zgid, but other than that the piste was hard and stony most of the way. You might be wise to take off the sily front skirt most modern cars have before leaving for Morocco, otherwise you risk leaving it in one of the oueds, but your Golf will do it no pbs.
I know it's good for infrastructure ect. but some of the charm of that valley will be lost once it can be done in an hour rather than a day.
Have fun

hi - if you are talking from the northern piste from FZ to Zagora it was in March 2005 still terribly stony and only a few km after FZ quite ok - like Luke wrote already

Ursula

PS there must be another piste more south

Yes, the northern piste (M8 in the book), was pretty stony a year ago. I recall the bashplate on our Merc 190 getting quick a bashing.
South of the Jebel route (M7) I recall as less stony and more sandy (but I did it in a 4WD years ago).

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
