Morroccan Madness?
Hi,
My friend and I are planning a trip to Morrocco in December next and I have a few questions. Any help would be appreciated.
Is this the best time of year or is there a better alternative? I note that there appears to be a group going in October.
On checking possible routes I was wondering if the road from Nador via Oujda might be a quicker and simpler alternative to the desert/Anti Atlas than going by what appears to be the traditional route through Marrakech? I was hoping to accomplish as much of Chris's 1000KM grand tour as possible albeit backwards ending in Tan Tan in about two weeks (there and back). Based on the distance and times given for the routes this looks tough but acheiveable. We will be taking two lightly modified MZ two strokes, a 251 and 301, inspired by the photo of the Simson under the title locals travel light.
Last question is a GPS really essential kit to navigate these routes?
Thanks
Steve
PS: I have a Lambeth prepped XT600 Ten (1VJ) in the garage but the MZs offered something a little off the wall...should I re-consider?

Depends if you like it hot or cold.

If you are planning to do the routes in reverse, why not Ceuta - Fez - Midelt - Erfoud ?
You'll will cross the Atlas, with nice landscape as you descend to the southern plains

With a good map, no. But it will give confort as you don't have to bother so much with the navigation.
Cheers,
José
