Hi Roro,
I remember that the shipping fees from Aqaba to Djibouti were approximately 1,400 US-Dollars (I have no idea about the rate from Europe). But then, there was an additional 1,200 USD (minimum, who knows what else would have come up once in the port) for the handling fees in Djibouti.
In the German forum Wuestenschiff (wuestenschiff.de/phpbb), fellow travellers who recently shipped their car to Djibouti reported the following fees:
Stamp BoL Agent: 100 $
Costs Diamond Shipping (port fees etc.): 80$
DPworld Doraleh Handling & Import: 654 $
Transit Agent: 100$
Container Transport: 135$
other fees: ca. 35 $
------------------------------------------
Total: 1.104,- $
That would come up to almost exactly what I was told in October 2012 (they paid a good tip to a helpful worker at the port in addition).
Your posting was not exactly clear as to whether you would like to ship TO or FROM Djibouti. I would imagine that the outgoing fees might be less than the incoming (but I don't know for sure).
Since the Sinai is off limits for 4WD, the Nuweiba - Aqaba ferry is, unfortunately, NOT a solution!
cars are allowed in Israel. To my knowledge, only Lebanon completely refuses to allow entry to Diesel cars.
Best,
Achim

Good info Achim. $1200 seems pretty good value for a 2000km transit with a car.
I copied your post onto the sub=Saharan forum.

I would agree, Chris, if it was 1,200 bucks - but shipping and handling sums up to 2,600 US-Dollars which then is a bit of a different story. Might still be worth it, though, if compared to other alternatives and the current hassle in Egypt etc.
Greetings,
Achim

Thanks Achim for your infos and sorry to have been imprecise about my plans:
I'm thinking about shipping my car TO Djibouti and after trying to coming back to Europe. And I've forgotten that Sinai is off limits!

Dear roro,
As the Windleys have just reported in another thread, it seems to be possible to cross the Sinai with a 4WD. Haven't heard of any recent experience yet, though.
Good luck on your fascinating route!

How about RoRo?

Hi, I am a newcomer here who was attracted by this specific thread. As I am now preparing for a trip the other way around (i.e. Egypt to Europe) and failed to find a ferry to start in that direction, with all land routes closed because of the situation in Libya and Syria, I came across this RoRo option. It seems to be the second best after a ferry with me on board, and is much more affordable than the container scheme. Did you consider that option? I can share some specific info and contacts if you wish.
