new prices Wadi Halfa to Aswan
Please find below info from this week on the connection between Sudan and Egypt.
Wadi Halfa. Go to the Nile Valley River Transport office in the train station and ask for Mr. Mahmood. Buy a ticket for the car for 92500 SD and passengers for 7000 SD each. Pay in SD, you can change U$ at the Bank of Khartoum in Halfa. Make sure you get a manifest = passenger list if you are on the cargo ship and know the dimensions of your vehicle. From there go to customs in the white building between the port and the train station and pay 1600 SD for stamp in Carnet. There is a Mr Kamal who does not work for customs, he can help you if you want but you pay for this. From the customs go to the immigration office opposite the bank in the village. Go from office to office and pay 1550 SD and 200 SD taxes per person and take exit paper. Go to port and make sure you get your exit stamp there. Expect at least half a day to organize everything. Blue uniform is police, camouflage blue is customs.
The regular ferry leaves Halfa on Wednesday afternoon and has a small cargo pontoon attached to it with the car on it and no passengers. Sometimes also empty cargo barges with pontoons attached leave for Egypt and you can join one of these, also from NVRT. We had an empty barge with plenty of space, left Tuesday afternoon and arrived Aswan Thursday morning. Bring enough food and water if you are on the barge.
In Aswan go to port police and immigration, then to customs. The traffic police needs to check the paperwork but are located in town and have to come to the port. Pay 1022 EP taxes and arrange insurance in town for about 20 - 50 EP. Then arrange Egyptian licence plates for the car from the traffic police. Note that traffic police is closed on Thursday afternoon and Friday, so we camped at the port. This info is valid if your carnet is valid for Egypt. We do not have info if this is not the case.
1 U$ is 6,12 EP and 1 U$ is 260 SD.
