News from Agadez
Fuel in In Guezzam: Yes, although we had to wait a couple of hours whilst the tankers deposited their loads. I didn't hear of supply being an issue in any case. You can camp in front of the Gendarmerie apparently. Lots of traffic on A1, nearly all trucks. Price quoted to ship Ahmeds bike [XR650R] to Arlit 10000AD (didn't need it - but just in case you do.....). Also a helpful and friendly mechanic in town. Restaurants seemed to be closed but cafe to the right of fuel station sells bread and cakes.
Assamaka: They take Euros, although 20=10000CFA for the police. You can change money there anyway. No customs charge with a Carnet, they didn't even check the frame numbers. A few hustlers but no problem. Had trouble finding the right piste out of town, but in reverse it shouldn't be a problem. Cafe there should you need it. Insurance about 14000CFA for one week. You can negotiate the price.
Arlit: Police stamp again required. No trouble, cadeaux requests politely declined. There's at least two (Total) fuel stations there. Road tolls also on the edge of town - 400CFA for a motorbike from Arlit to Agadez and police checks but no stamps. They check you've paid in Agadez with a further police check. Gloves were demanded as cadeaux on both occasions. There's a hotel on the main drag where you could securely park motorcycles but a car wouldn't fit through the door. Careful with the prices there, they're very crafty with extras added on to the food bill for example. Didn't stay there and went staright to Agadez after eating. In fact hassle in Arlit was much worse than Agadez or Assamaka [I have heard this from other sources too] , they chased us down the road to the fuel station.
Agadez: Stayed in Hotel Agreboun near the big mosque, everyone knows it. Secure parking for bikes. Basic single room 5000CFA. No restaurant. There's also a camping a couple of kms north of town on the Arlit road just before the police check.
