I do completely agree with Chris:
Considering the dangers of Darfur (there MIGHT be a convoy, but most probably you will be refused to take that route in the first place), there are the uncertainties of Tchad, then - coming from Ndjamena - Northern Cameroon, Northern Nigeria or Niger with all its Boko Haram and AQMI groups running around, then Ebola in West Africa, the situation in Mali (not even to mention the recent coup in Burkina ...).
So why would you consider this route with all its hassles when there is a new border crossing between Sudan and Egypt which seems to be finally operational, an apparently running ferry from Egypt to Turkey and the fact that Khartoum right now seems to be the one place where you can still obtain a Saudi transit visa?
Greetings,
Achim
