Oil cooler?

Rode my '92 Dommie ealier this year though some pretty warm countries such as Iran/Pakistan and India. Although it performed faultlessly, on some of the hotter days I really found things heating up quite a bit, especially in traffic.
I'm planning a trip to the Sahara next and was considering fitting an oil cooler to help cool things down a bit. Anyone done this to a Dommie or got any advice on the subject?
Cheers

Hi,
I had an XR650L when I went through West Africa. It has the same engine as the Dominator.

I used a cooler which was good, first for cooling and second because you have a larger volume of oil so it shouldn't wear too quickly. I took the original oil pipe in case I needed to remove the cooler if damaged.

However, my travel companion for much of the trip had a Dominator with no cooler. He had no problems.
We both used synthetic oil.

If you expect to encounter mud, the front mudguard on the Domi needs modifying/replacing to provide more clearance from the tyre which can clog with mud.

Call me on 01522 800767 if you want to talk about it.

David.

Hi David,

Many thanks for your reply. Yes I know what you mean about the front mudguard!! It was a nightmare in Cambodia as the mud kept jamming the wheel so I took it off(mudguard not the wheel ).. mud everywhere! I shall be changing it now for a higher one.

Any special oil cooler you used?

Cheers - Dave
