Hi Brend
The piste from Siwa to Bahariya Oasis (Bawiti) is not difficult in a 4x4.
I did this journey in the reverse (Northbound) direction from Bawiti to Siwa 3 years ago.

Don’t forget to visit the amazing ‘Areg Gorge’ which is a short way out of Siwa. It’s great for camping and no one has ever been there…
Don’t drive down too far into the gorge unless you have a back-up vehicle; it’s all below sea level and could be treacherous.
Take fixes regularly, there are no landmarks anywhere on this route.
Always take GPS fixes if you leave the piste.
Areg Gorge is 2km North of the piste and, being a land depression, invisible until you reach it.
The piste from Siwa to Bawiti was rough but driveable; at times we left it and drove alongside.
The map describes it as ‘ensablée,’ but it’s not that bad.
Check your police permissions carefully – this is not a regular route and police are suspicious.
They used their radio telephone at the check-point outside Bawiti to check our permits.
We did not have a police observer with us.
Fuel available at Siwa and good market at Bawiti.
I can’t remember the fuel station at Bawiti, perhaps another traveller can advise.
Otherwise call back and I’ll search out my day-log.
Good luck
