Seeking Dakhla Moroc Info

I'm in Rabat TDY w/myGS1150ADV & want to go to Dakhala before I leave in 3 weeks. What info can you good folks provide me vis-a-vis hotels or camping, riads, hotels, restaurants, etc?

Merci

Dakhla is situated in a wonderfully scenic setting on a long peninsular with lots of salt flats. As you come onto the peninsular there's a couple of motorhome encampments on the left, the second area you could maybe wild camp, a bit further on just at the town limits there's a formal campsite on the left.

According to the guidebooks there's supposed to be a couple of good hotels but I rode around for ages and couldn't find them, in the end I stayed in a rather broken down place for 200 dh which was a total rip off (worth maybe 80 dh).

On the way to Dakhla don't miss the Gouffre d'Akhfenir sea hole (N28 06.420 W12 02.280) just before Akhfenir maybe 40 miles before Tarfaya.

At Tarfaya it's worth making a detour to Cap Juby (N27 56.704 W12 55.532) to see the remnants of the sea castle built by a Scottish guy, also the memorial to Antoine de Saint-Exupery, the famous flier.

Then 30 miles or so south of Tarfaya is a great campsite next to a calcified waterfall dropping into a Sebjet. It's called Camping Le Roi Bedouin (N27 56.704 W12 55.532) and the camel tajine is brilliant.

Dackhla is a very nice town. If you don't want to camp, you can look for Hotel Sahara, 4 stars, where a lot of forigen stay, where you can find , wiscky and so on. Or you can look for something cheaper. Go in the central area, where rhe market is and ask around. We found a guy, ghid Bashir, who help us with a lot of things. Don't forget, in the morning, to tack an Cafe au Lait in the center of the town, on the see-wall

There are load of places to stay in Dahkla and the major towns on the way. If you want a cheap option, use Camping Musaffar (about 3euros a night), they also have rooms there. It is located just inside the police checkpoint.

You can try this! cheap as chips!
Find a spot out of sight
Check where the wind is blowing from
Use bike as shield
Dig about a foot and a half down
Sorted

Just a quick correction on Tim's coordinates for camping le roi bédouin. It's actually here: 27.462022, -13.051763
27.462022144218817,-13.05176317691803 - Google Maps

They used to have a website on Geocities, which doesn't exist anymore.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
