Share a guide through Algeria October 2006??
Hi
I'm planning to cross Algeria (Tunisia to Niger) via the Hoggar Route, was wondering if anyone else had similar plans for this October. I'm travelling in a 4x4 but would welcome fellow travellers on bikes, or any other vehicle (not looking for foot passengers).
At the very least, I would like to do a north-south traverse seeing the peaks of the Hoggar from Assekrem. If it's possible, I'm also keen to do a couple of side trips to the Tassili N'Ajer, and possible the meteor crater on the In Amenas piste.
I intend to leave Algeria at In-Guezzam for Niger. I would be happy to spend anything from about 10 days to 4 weeks in Algeria.
If anybody has similar plans and would appreciate splitting the costs of the guide, please either post a reply, or email me at:
zeus_xy *at* hotmail *dot* com
Cheers
Dan

Anybody else interested in joining ?
Hi everybody,
Is there anybody else interested in joining us on our journey through Algeria and possibly further onwards through Niger and Nigeria?
Is there much chance of finding travel partners while we´re travelling (e.g. on the boat to Tunis?)
Cheers,
Martin

We (1 person in a 4x4, 1 on a bike) plan to enter Algeria mid to late October this year (e.g. 20th). I'd be very keen to travel with you to share costs, but I believe there may be a problem as we all need to apply to the same embassy for our visas (i.e. London). Are you in Holland?
Please mail me if your still interested to see what we can do.
Cheers
Dan

Hi,

That should not be a problem, ask the agency to send an invite to both embassies. If they can't, ask another agency.
All best, Yves

Travelling together
Hi Dan,
It would be nice to travel together, not only because we can save some money by sharing the guide, but also because it safer and it might be more fun!
Unfortunately we cannot guarantee yet that we will make oct 20th.. there are some dependencies with work, etc. We currently aim at the 1st week of november. With some luck late oct. would be possible, but we cannot tell yet.
What are your plans for Algeria and when you arrive in Niger? Are there certain things you want to see?
Also I am still curious about the number of other travellers we can expect to encounter.
Cheers,
Martin

Have any of these agencies indicated to you yet what the cost of a guide will be for 4weeks?

Hi
We really wish to stick to late October, but we'd be very keen to join with you if possible.
We aim to spend ca 20 days in Algeria - taking in the scenery, travelling off piste, but we are not crossing any major ergs. We aim to see the Tassilli N'Ajjer NP, Assekrem, Tam, then cross in to Niger at I-n-Guezzam.
We are also thinking of doin a loop through the Tenere and Air Mountains in Niger, seeing Bilma, Dirkou, Djado etc.
Please let me know if you have similar plans,
Regards,
Dan

Could be interesting
Hi,
My girlfriend and I are considering a 3 to 4 week trip to Algeria around that time. We returned in February from a 4 month trip Tunesia-Libya-Niger-Mali-Mauri-Morocco so you can see that Algeria is sort of the missing piece of the puzzle. On this trip we met up with two English car that were going to Algeria. Met them again later and they had been very satisfied with their Swiss guide. I can could get the contact details of this guide.
One problem for us is that it will be quite hard to get off from work to do this trip, so nothing is sure yet.
Regards,
Redhouse.

Guide share for Algeria.
Hi Dan and Martin and ? others,
Are you still heading into/through Algeria along Hoggar route or have you already gone? We are planning same 2-up on one motorcycle mid-November this year (2006) crossing into Niger, entering from Tunisia and would be keen to share a guide. Must apply for visa soon.
