Shipping 'Cruiser from Cape town to UK
Howdi everyone
I was wondering whether anybody knows of a shipping agent/agents out there based in South Africa (Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban)who can arrange [at economical cost] the freight shipping or RO/RO ferry of a 'Cruiser (passenger facility as well) to the UK? (London, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Southampton, Bristol)

Hi Renate
I have been led to believe that to ship a vehicle SA-UK in a 20 ft container would cost approx £2-2500. However, we asked Britannia in CT and they gave an approx figure of 1200.
If this is of interest let me know and I will dig out the contact details.
regards
ChrisC

On a slightly different topic but have looked into shipping in the past. RoRo is cheaper but you have to empty the vehicle or the dockers will for you! A container although more expensive means you have a better chance of getting your vehicle and kit from A to B intact.

Hello there Renate
We had a good experience using agents in Cape town to ship our landy from cape town to London.
Speak to Turner Shipping
PO Box 59109
Killarney Gardens 7441
Cape Town
Can't find the telephone number.
Well organised, easy shipping. I'm afraid I have not got a record of how much it cost.
Regards
Richard

we used Kuehne & Nagel in Cape Town to clear our vehicle we had shipped to Cape Town and again to send the vehicle back to the UK. We were extremly happy with there service, efficiency and cost £500. It was a different story in the UK. An K+N agent in North Feltham tried to seriously rip us off. We eventually cleared the vehicle for about £400. But know it can be handled much easier and cheeper in the port of Tilbury. I would recomend K+N but Bristol Office. I can supply more info on the things to avoid at the Tilbury end. (1998) I would only recomend RoRo if you don't have any thing you can afford to loose and you'll probably only save about £300 anyway.

I've read positive reviews (don't remember where on internet) on MegaFreight in RSA. When I contacted them, they came back with an estimate the next day and appeared to be very helpful. Estimated cost for shipping a Landcruiser from Cape Town to Rotterdam: 15th Rand (1300 quid at current rate). I believe this is in container excl. insurance. Their email: infocpt@megafreight.co.za
