How longs a piece of string. Depends amongst other things on how the consulate is feeling, hard to judge as you don't actually meet him. We got ours in under 2 hours. 2 Brits, a kiwi and a Dane. No problems. Incredably helpful, other sudanese in the queue insisted we go to the front of the queue as we were going to be their guests. Really nice people. However I've heard of other people who have been refused and others who have got it but only after several weeks and being refered to Khartoum.
One way which may be more reliable is the method the Overland trucks use. They go to a Sudanese embassy in say Morrocco, submit all the details and then arrange to pick up the visas further along their route. This means if the Sudanese want to refer the applications to Khartoum, the truck isn't held up for three weeks as they are travelling in between and then pick up in say Nigeria / Ndjamena, somewhere else.
