Tamanrasset from Tunisia
I am planning to visit Tunisia next december and I am thinking to reach Tamanrasset, I don't know about papers for Algeria (visa, carnet, etc.) and road conditions, safety ... can you help me? Or should I change my mind and stay in Tunisia only ? I only have a couple of weeks...
thank you

Tamanrasset in two weeks?
Hi Honeyrider
Tamanrasset in two weeks? That’s pushing it.
You’ll need visa and a guide to meet you at the Algerian border and an Algerian escort all the way (normally a student trying to perfect their language skills).
Yves (on this forum) will fix the escort. Things change quickly in this region, but I entered Algeria at Taleb Larbi in 2007
You’ll need most of a day, in each direction, crossing the border, and about 4 days each way getting to Tamanrasset. That accounts for around ten days !
I would suggest entering Algeria certainly, but don’t bother with that long trail to Tam – meanwhile there is plenty to look at in Tunisia anyway.
I have a blog about our trip at http://www.kitmax.blogspot.com/ - scroll down to Friday, November 02, 2007. Regret no photos yet, just off to Gobi (tomorrow) so time is short.
All best Kitmax

Tunisia Tam in two weeks sounds like stress. I am happy to recomend Algerie. Nize people, and a fantastic nature to ride in. And yes, Yves is the man.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
