Question Tanzania to Beirut

Hi All,
I am new to the website and an early thank you to those of you who have spent time making this site so valuable. I lived in the Southern Highlands of TZ for almost two years and managed to travel 20,000 km all over TZ, Zambia, Kenya and Uganda. Unfortunately, I have now moved to Beirut and my bike is just not selling in Dar (2014 F800GS). I couldn't import with my personal belongings because it is too old and so I would like to drive it back and import it temporarily into Lebanon as I find a new contract in Africa or SEA. Well, I also desperately need a new adventure.
So...my questions are the following please:
1) Can I get a CdP in Nairobi if I am bringing my bike in from TZ? Dar es Salaam does not have any office (and no AA office) to get one in TZ.
2) The route is Kenya-Ethiopia-Sudan-Egypt-ferry at Hurghada-Sinai to Jordan-Syria-Lebanon. Is any of this currently impossible due to security? If I can't sell my bike in Dar there is no reason to donate to a local militia in Southern Syria...I have friends in Syria so I am optimistic in that country.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Davoud

Wow that's a seriously difficult big can of worms!

CDP - technically you get it in your home country. (Where the bike is registered)
More details on the carnet page here.

Security is variable and changes daily as you are probably aware! To my knowledge it's currently doable, with the possible exception of Sudan, and paperwork issues in Ethiopia. Search the site for latest Ethiopia information.

Also think about selling it on the HUBB Bikes for Sale / Wanted forum! Unless you really want the adventure...
Good luck, and please let us know what happens!

Thanks Grant, for your advice. This CdP in Tanzania is a PIA. I really can't move forward with any degree of confidence until I get that sorted out. It would take me no time at all in SA or Kenya (not that it matters...). I will start my homework for Ethiopia. Sudan is going to be one of those play it by ear sort of places. It is funny but at 60 I seem to have an easier time at borders...undoubtedly it is respect for age combined with pity! Thank you again, Davoud

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
