The BLUE LINE on the 741 map

Hi.
Thank you all for your answers to this questions: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...tidjikja-28027 http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...imbouctu-18271

My 741 North and West Michelin map is open on the floor and I can see one blue line:

It goes from TANGIER to CASA (to pick up the RIM visa), down the coast trough ESSAOUIRA to TAN-TAN.
There it makes a loop - the M12 and M13 Chris Scott pistes, to SMARA.
All the way down to the border with MAURITANIA – NOUADHIBOU – to get the insurance and try to meet someone to make the piste R1 to NOUAKCHOTT with me, as I guess that’s too much for me to do it alone - I will pick up the visa to MALI in the capital.
From there, the blue line goes west to KIFFA, with a little detour to MOUDJERIA, to reach NEMA. Again a loop to visit OULATA and back to NEMA.
Then south to MALI. Crossing the border to NARA. West and north to get to TIMBUKTU.

UAU!! I’ve done it!

The blue line is now over the blue line of the Niger River. I’ll try to go down by “boat” to MOPTI. Visit the DOGON country, DJENE, cross the river at DIAFARABE, and go down trough MASSINA, SEGOU, to reach BAMAKO.
Then, two choices:
1 - go to KITA and north to KAYES
2 - go to GUINEA – go around trough FOUTA DJALON to CONAKRY and back to MALI via north to KAYES.
(here the blue line is a little confused over the 741)
Any way, once at KAYES, it goes north, crossing the border to KIFFA and it continues further north to TIDJIKJA.
If I meet someone to go with me, the dream would be to reach ATAR – R10 – by piste.
The other option (but not the blue line) is to go to NOUAKCHOTT again and – tarmac all the way…sad…
ATAR – CHINGUETTI – OUDANE – ATAR
And from ATAR to NOUADHIBOU – R2 - the train piste.
And back to Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.

The idea is to turn the blue line in a red one once the Kms goes by.
Alone on a BMW 650gs with a tent, tools, some food, etc,
two 4 L water bag for water, and a 5 L plastic can for petrol. Some time later this year.

ANY THOUGHTS OR TIPS ON THIS BLUE LINE?

Thanks

Sounds like a good route, i have no fixed plans apart from getting to dakar in november, so will stay in touch if all goes well we'll get a somewhere.

I'm guessing that my kit will change as one goes along, but the bike will be the same a GS 650 Dakar. no tank modifications so like you a 5 litre spare.

sold my sole to the BMW & Touratech so may pro's and con's for all the kit gone for the 41 litre panniers so i can get a decent pillow in, after 3 years of camping, staying crap in hotels & truck cabs i have only have a requirement thing and thats a decent pillow.

I would avoid Guinea - the situation is not stable at all and can change rapidly.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
