Sorry, I do know where Annaba is, but had forgotten my original question. It was the same in school exams!

Hm, back to 12 then...

(would still like some more info on the Annaba entry though?)

Sam,

The annaba case should be on : http://www.voyage.gc.ca/destinations...ountry=Algeria

There where 4/5 russians picking mushrooms, no really.
There are many more reports on your 'investigation', when I will have the time, I will continue the search on the subject.

Tim

We forgot the Luxor killings, 70 tourists where executed at Hatshepsut's Temple, [1999 ?], Hatshepsut's Temple is standing on the west-bank, and that is part of the Western-desert.

Here are some interesting statistics and background on the subject of dying related to travel backed up with some nice philosophy:
http://www.comebackalive.com/df/whatdngr.htm

Next, I'm interested to kwow if the atlantic route can be done without guide and no gps. I've been reading "Sahara overland" yet it seems to me that this route has so much traffic going through that it would be hard to get lost. Wrong idea?

To all, have a save trip, don't die and keep the conversation going.

Somewhere in the Sahara, Charles de Foucauld, an army officer who turned desert monk, was martyred to death in 1916.

Yup!

I'm not sure that I can accept Charles de Foucald (he was a missionary - not really your average tourist!) - you'll have to go to Assekrem to see where he spent his contemplation time - great place!

Unfortunately, the panel have also decided that your Tanzanian story be discarded - something to do with Tanzania not being in the Sahara???!!! Sorry!

And as for Agatha Christie!

With the Luxor killings, we do leap suddenly to 82. I suppose I should count those really? (but very reluctantly!).

Still not a very big total though - which is nice...

Yes, Chairman, Sir, it is True, there are so few bad stories to find on/in the Sahara. Therefore, Dear panel Director, I would like to have dispensation from this topic as a senior-researcher for at least 2 mounts, after that period, I will dig myself into the sandy-stories again, [If I can find them] I hope that the Chairman understands that my first priority now is to prepare the Landy for serious work, to start with: the roof is leaking again on the left/front side, but that problem only counts for the first 2000km. But that topic of course, belongs in the 4x4 box..I know.
Permission granted ? Sir ?

Tim,

Nae worries! I think we'll leave it for a while!

Just for the asking, might you be on for a three-weeker to Algeria end October, early November (there and back, and then 10 days with a load of guys on 'bikes around Tamanrasset-Djanet)?

Just thought I'd ask! Gimme an email...

Sam.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
