Transport to Libya
Hi Guys,
We have a group of people (8-10) interested in traveling through Libya.
We want to take a Mercedes Sprinter with a trailor loaded up with bikes + 2 4WD's go from Poland to Italy and than to Libya by sea.
The visas and passport translations should't be a problem as long as Trade Atache of Libya is invlolved in preparations. The only problem is a mean of transportation. We'd like to go there by sea from italy or any other meditereanean country. The problem is that are no ferries to be found...
I've heard about cargo ships willing to take passengers with bikes..
Any ideas?
Please Help!

Our trip to Libya in October/November was completed using Genoa to Tunis (back Tunis to Marseilles). The drive down to the Libyan border is only a few hours.

@ dominiks3; I am a little bit confused that the Trade Atache of Libya could not give you the required information (although I am not in the full picture about his scope of works / responsibilities). However; I would recommend you to check out MESSINA lines since the have regular fright-ships with ro-ro facilities to Libya. But (!); check as well very carefully with your Libyan tour operator, if he actually can prepare the required customs procedures (in advance) to avoid you being stucked in Tripoli-Seaport for (maybe) several days.
Personally I would advise you to drive to either Genova or Marseille and use CTN to Tunis La Goulette and travel cross Tunisia to the Libyan border. This is the known and proven way to enter Libya by car since several years.
If you would chose the direct ship to Tripoli, then please let us know your experiences afterwards. Many thanks in advance.

And what about customs formalities in Tripoli? Same as the Tunisian/Lybian border post?
And about guide/policeman?

Yes but only for commercial goods.
x Roro
Of course and surely be worst because it is an international harbour and control are compulsry more severe. For the guide and the policeman it will be easier as they will save time and money not going to Ras Ejdir

Thanks Budrinna,
I'm really interested in prices and further details but I couldn't find any details neither on the Italian site nor the Libyan one (which seems to be non-existent or down).
Probably will try to call them.
