Question Tunisia Guides

Hi All

Dose anyone know of any good Tunisia Guides that know the Great Eastern Erg Desert well As I'm looking for a new Guide for a Recce out there in November this year.
Have Google Tunisia Guides but didn't come up with a lot

Two wheels or four? we're heading out that way in late October if you want to tag along - no guide though, we'll make it up as we go!

Exclamation

Hi all,

since about March this year tourist travel (following the kidnapping of 2 Austrians) in the military zone of south Tunisia requires a guide + hire of a local 4x4 to transport the military escort. So actually it should be considered as impossible.
The military zone is delimited roughly by the line some km north of Bir Roumane - Bir Aouine - Kamour - Remadea - Dehibat.

Thanks for the clarification Yves. I've not heard of most of those places but looking it up they = a line from Nalut/Dehibat up NW to the left corner of the Chott el Djerid on the Alg border.
So Douz - Ksar Ghilane etc remain fine.

Unhappy

Regulations seem to be even worse from 1.1.2009 on, see:
Wüstenschiff :: Thema anzeigen - !!! Tunesien - Sperrgebiet nur noch mit Führer !!!

In brief:
Northern zone: guide and permit required, at least 2 cars, gps, stphone
Southern zone: only organized tours, ralleys, at least 4 cars and as above.

Nice one Ulrich,
I was trying to work out the positions when I came across your map.
Do you know if the coast road from Libya to Tunis is affected?
Cheers
Ian

If it is of any interest to anybody I'm arranging a trip to Tunisia in November or maybe early December for several bikes with 4x4 backup.

doing a couple of days at Nefta then cross country to Douz then Dunes to Ksar Ghilane for 2 or 3 days dune riding.

at the moment the plan is to do 7 or 10 days in Tunisia.
