Visas for Muaritania not available in Rabat
Just a quick post as a lot of people are still turing up in Rabat for their Mauri visas - these are now avaiable in Casablanca - the embassy is close to the campsite, and if yuo apply at 9:00 on a weekday it usually takes 5 hours
<snip>
The campsite is about 5 minutes walk from the embassy and is called "Camping l'Oasis". It's reasonable and has hot showers available for and extra 10 Dirham.
You should get to the embassy by around 9am. You fill out a form and hand in photocopies of your passport
(and 2 passport photos)

There wasn't before. We got ours in Rabat about 12 months ago and was just as quick and efficient. Great apart from where you all gather at the alloted hour to collect passports and they hand them out - despite looking at the pictures they seem completely inept at working out which passport belongs to who so its advisable to be on time to pick them up.

Hi
Your passport being one of a lot and not knowing if they hand it out to someone else can be a bit nerving. The (former?) convoy to Mauritania collected over 100 passports and kept them overnight in a big plastic bag. At the end they turned the bag upside down and started to hand them out again (very slowly).
One tip to be able to recognise you passport a bit easier: put something like a piece of bright coloured tape on the outside. I had that by accident (it was actually advertizing of the bureau that arranged some visa for me) and it turned out very easy and handy to know if your passport was about to be processed or that you could come back half an hour later.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
