2015 USA Road trip
Hi all

I'm new here, so be gentle!

I'm planning a six month road trip through the USA and could do with some pointers of where to go, and to see things off the beaten track.
Well be shipping my bike from the UK, will do the route 66 thing, and finish the 101.
Would love to meet up with some local club (non chapter) for ride outs.
Anyway, come say hello, love to here from riders state side or anyone with interesting points of interest.
Oh and please feel free to ask me anything.

Hi Carlos. It is a big country with lots to see. What are your interests? What months? If I had the time I'd hit some national parks. If your doing 101 then Yosemite, Redwood, etc.. You can search here: U.S. National Park Service - Experience Your America

I'm on the east cost in NJ. PM me if you plan on coming out this way. I'm just starting to plan a small trip for myself up to Gaspe for next August.

Huge freaking country! I am from the east coast and have made yearly m/c trips out west to hook up with my son who lives out there, after which we spend 1-2 weeks riding. Have covered a large part of the western part of the USA. Strongly recommend southern Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Montana...
Ping me for specifics. And, if you are in the east coast let me know, we can hook up. Also east coast places like the Smokey mountains in North Carolina, Northern George, South west Tennessee are pretty cool, but nothing the the western part of the country for M/C riding.

Lassen Volcanic Park (California), Crater Lake (Oregon), Lost Coast (Cal).

When on '66 deviate, there is shed loads more to see off to the sides (Like Grand Canyon).

Drop down to New Orleans, visit the Texas Hill country and pop into Big Bend NP and Terlingua (ghost town).

Go north and get to Sturgis (if your 6 months covers the Black Hills rally.)

Smoky mountains

I could go on and on and on.

Get a road atlas of the US and start marking where you think looks good.

Planning something similar myself... I've pinned lots of places in Google Maps: State-by-State, feel free to have a look. Had to cut them back as I had so many pins... there's just so much to see and do; some touristy things and some Parks, Forests and Monuments. Don't forget to have a look at America's Scenic Byways.

Check out HU Communities the ADVRider Tent Space and CouchSurfer, they're great for meeting locals and likeminded travellers.

I can definitely recommend the Blue Ridge Parkway through the Smoky Mountains. Not a single stop sign, give way sign or traffic light for the entire length (469 miles or 754 km), no commercial vehicles and no advertising billboards. Just a winding road through the Smoky Mountains with some nice views.

And if you are going to ride the Parkway, head a little further south to ride the infamous Tail of the Dragon (US 129) at Deals Gap. There are some other nice riding roads around Deals Gap such as the Hellbender 28, Cherohala Skyway, etc.

Suggest you check out scenic byways in the states or regions you plan to visit. These are beautiful rides and trips of the beaten paths in almost every US state.

Try to Spend as much time west of Denver as you can. The west is so vast and diverse, it is there for you to explore.

My 3 suggestions for you.

Simply?:
Stay West of the Mississippi River, and in the mountains as much as possible. Yellowstone park is well worth the effort, but will be a bit crowded

I disagree with the "stay West" guys respectfully.

Ride the Appalachian mountains from Maine to Georgia. You'll find great scenery and winding and perfect motorcycling. Blue Ridge Parkway, Shenandoah Valley, Smoky Mountains in the South and similar in the Northeast. Great diners, festivals in the spring summer and fall abound. Spring blossoms to autumn colors - pretty hard to beat.

The West is great too, so do them BOTH. Utah has five National parks and they are ALL worth seeing and of course there's Yellowstone and Grand Teton and Hell Canyon and much more!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
