Arriving Denver 10 August 2014 help required

Hi to everyone out there biking.
My first posting.
I am from Scotland and I am now coming to US for a bike trip starting in Denver.
My plan is to arrive on 10 August and buy a bike.
I plan to ride the local area until 18 August then head up into South Dakota for a couple of weeks then bike over to west coast finishing up in San Diego in mid September.
Can anyone assist with cheap accommodation in Demver area for a few days to get me started?
I understand that I will require a local address to help with bike purchase. Can anyone help with an address?
Also, I have looked at organising insurance through Progressive. Any advice on what sum assured I should go for $50,000 or $100,000?
Any other hints and tips would be welcome.
Cheers

As I said, I am coming into Fl, at the moment, the bikes that I like and fit the bill for me are in Colorado and Arkansas......!!??

The best way to purchase a bike in the US if you are coming from another country would to be to buy one (used) thru Craiglist as there are many motorcycles for sale here and CL has listings in just about every major citiy.

The US is a big country. If you can, I would get a GPS unit as it will help you get around, or at least help you get back to where you want to be if you get lost.

You will need to have a motorcycle endorsement on your drivers license. While it is not common, people who have been stopped by a cop for a traffic violation and found to be riding without a MC endorsement have had their bikes impounded.

I would opt for the most complete insurance coverage that you can afford while riding in the states..If you are only here for a few months it should be relatively cheap.

Bobbyrandall, I would say look me up when you get to Florida, but I will be leaving on a tour up to Maine on June 1 and be gone for most all of the month.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
