Plan your trip to be in the parks during the day and then find a place to stay after you leave the parks. Be sure and check out "bear tooth pass" on the east side of yellowstone.
I happen to live midway between the parks and have to put up with twisty roads, wide open spaces and multiple wildlife sightings on a daily basis. Earlier in the year on a trip to yellowstone we say eagles, a wolf, bear, elk, and numerous buffalo all in their natural setting just doing their thing.
