Help Busted Spokes Whitehorse/Fairbanks
Hi
In Whitehorse en route to Fairbanks.
Have 5 snapped spokes on rear wheel of my XT Tenere 86. Only just had wheel rebuilt in LA after a heavily cracked rim.
Does anyone know someone who might be able to help in Whitehorse or in Fairbanks? May have to ride to Fairbanks but as coming from Ushuaia I must get to Prudhoe Bay and can't tackle Dalton highway in this state. Will make enquiries here tomorrow but any bright ideas or contacts would be highly highly appreciated.
Yours hopefully
AC

Take tyre off and tube out, unscrew broken spokes and replace with spares.
The same 'ping' sound as other spokes indicate similar tension and is ok.
If you don't have any spare spokes:

Thanks very much
Thanks for the advice and the contacts.
I think the issue is getting the spokes for the Sun rim, will try your contacts but I fear I will have to order from Southern California.
Working on it now but it seems I will be in Whitehorse for a while.
Many thanks and best regards

Hey AC,
Unfortunate, hope it all works out. In the meantime, I'm sure you have found all the bike shops in town. The Yamaha dealer is on the way into town but probably is a generalist shop with a heavy emphasis on sleds. The Honda dealer focuses on all seasons, but they do help a couple of hundred travellers every summer with tire changes, etc. so it would be worthwhile to see if they can help. Air service from Vancouver is daily, so if you can find the spokes in Vancouver you can next day them using Air Canada cargo. If you think you could limp it along, you can presend your spokes to Fairbanks and then you won't lose as much time. Anyways, best of luck and enjoy the ride.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
