how long to cross Canada
I’m planning on crossing Canada from Montreal to the north tip of Alaska before turning south and heading towards south America. Due to my abysmal planning I will now leave for my trip later than planned, arriving in Montreal early to mid July. Does this give me enough time to cross Canada and Alaska and make it out of the north before the worst of the winter sets in?
Also does anybody know what the situation is with the visas . As a British citizen I know I can stay in Canada for up to 3 months without a visa. Does anybody know what happens when I cross into Alaska and then re-enter Canada. Does the visa ‘reset’ giving me the 3 months again or does it continue to run on during my time in Alaska, in effect giving me three months to get to the ‘main’ American border . I suspect It’s the latter but has anybody got experience of this. The Canadian tourist board in London were pretty vague on this. Thanks

Hey there. You will have plenty of time indeed to make your trip. I all depends on what you plan on doing. You can cross the country, tip to tip, in a week if all you are doing is riding an no sightseeing. If you plan on wandering around, count on at least one month for the whole trip.

Visa's ... what it says on your visa for duration of stay is what it means. Bee bopping back and forth across the US/Can border won't get you anymore time. After 9/11 the border crossings between US/Can have become a lot more intense from each countires perspective and you can run into problems depending where you cross. Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
