Leadership: California State Recreational Vehicle Area
I would like to share the email I am sending to the California Appointments secretary with regard to a pleas to Re-Appoint Daphne Greene as Deputy Director of the OHMVR Division (Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Commission).
Though many travel to far flung places on our rides, there is a great deal of dual sport training, practice and family fun going on in California at State Recreation Vehicle areas which fall under the provine of the OHMVR commision. The riding community is about to lose one of its strongest advocates. Please read on. If you agree, please add your post and also write to California Appointments Secretary: Veronica Ortiz-Torress. Thanks, Sue Slate

Dear Ms. Ortiz-Torres:
Our organization may not be based in California, however we have co-hosted and hosted off-road rider training events in two California SRVA Parks, Prairie City and Hollister Hills. We intend to bring more riders to the state of California for training. In turn, these riders will bring others which of course means more dollars being spent in California.
Presently, California is a Mecca not only for Off-Road riding enthusiasts, but also for supporting off-road riding with educational and rider training components. This allows for the acquisition of proper skills along with encouraging the wearing of correct riding gear, the use of age appropriate quads and motorcycles, sensitivity towards the environment and the need for trail maintenance. Much of this happens at California SRVA Parks under the province of the OHMVR. Additionally, the OHMVR encourages the enjoyment of off-road vehicle recreation by families and has provided programs for at risk youth.
The Women's Motorcyclist Foundation, a 501(c)3 rider education and charitable organization recognizes and applauds the OHMVR Division and its fantastic work. Under the leadership of Deputy Director Green, the OHMVR Division functions as a cohesive unit allowing for the respect and input of all of its employees. Deputy Director Green makes herself accessible to the public as well which explains the large growth SRVA volunteers.
We are alarmed and dismayed that Deputy Director Green is being replaced and that her last day of service is December 31, 2011. Deputy Director Green has provided the energy, insight and inspiration to improve the SRVA programs since 2004. She has the knowledge, skills base, passion and support of her colleagues and the off-road riding community which extends far beyond California's borders.
The California SRVA Parks are supported in large part by entry and sticker fees. Out of state riders spend their money in the SRVA areas and the surrounding areas. California citizens support the SRVA additionally through fuel taxes.
The leadership we all need and trust is already in place. We appeal to you to reappoint Deputy Director Green to maintain and build upon all she has done for the State of California, the off-road riding community and the positive communication among outdoor recreational groups.
Please Re-Appoint Daphne Greene as Deputy Director of the OHMVR Division. It is the right thing to do.
Sincerely,
Gin Shear ~ Executive Director

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
